What I am reflecting?
Learning over Thinking
“If people don’t ask the right questions, their brain doesn’t learn.” This is a statement by Richard Bandler, one of the founders of NLP. He also mentioned, “It doesn’t matter to me why something happened … I want answers that point me in the direction of making change.”
One of the reasons you are not progressing is that you’re stuck with the same way of doing things. This is also called your habit. When there is external pressure for you to change, you will feel stressed because there is no other way for you to behave.
What can you do?
In most of my coaching sessions, I would empathize with my coachee in order to create understanding and rapport. Even the story of their challenges and struggles is crucial. However, the more important thing I’m looking for is the learning behind it.
It is alright to do a stupid thing and fail at it. It is always better than standing still and doing nothing—even a stupid thing.
My meditation teacher once told me, “Billy, that blue sky, green grass, and breezy air landscape is a nice place to be. I would encourage you to go and explore something else. It might be good or it might be bad. At least it is something different.” That simple statement stuck with me for a long time.
Life is about exploring and understanding yourself more. Not good or bad—just move on and let something else come.
After you fail at doing the stupid thing, always remember: what did you learn from it? What are you going to do differently next time? When you get the learning, you are going to be more flexible in the future.
I encourage you to brave yourself, to do the thing that you think in your thinking. You’re absolutely going to learn more.
Now, that’s a way better way to learn and grow.
If you need help from a coach to guide you through, I’m here to help.
