What I am reflecting?
Starting Your Day Right
Most mornings, before anything else, I sit in a regular chair, close my eyes, and go quiet.
No phone. No news. No rushing. Just me, and a few minutes to set the tone for the day ahead.
It doesn’t look like much from the outside. But what happens in those minutes — that’s everything.
Here’s what I’ve come to realize about the moment right after you wake up.
You’re not fully awake yet. Not fully asleep either. You’re somewhere in between — drifting up from a deep rest, still wrapped in that soft, receptive state we call alpha. And in that state, your unconscious mind is wide open. It’s listening. It’s absorbing. It’s ready to be instructed.
That’s why what you feed yourself in those first waking moments matters so much. Your mind is almost like fertile soil right after rain — whatever you plant in it will take root.
So here is what I do.
I start with the Silva Method — the three-to-one technique — to bring myself into alpha deliberately. Slow the breath. Follow the count. Let the mind soften.
Then I go deeper. Counting down from ten… nine… eight… all the way down, until I arrive somewhere quiet and still. My relaxation place. Everyone has one — or can have one. For me, it’s where I go to recharge.
And when I’m there, I charge myself up. Happiness. Health. Hope. Clarity. Confidence. Composure. Joy. Fun. I don’t rush through them — I feel each one. Let each quality settle into me before moving to the next.
From there, I move into gratitude.
What am I thankful for today? What happened yesterday that I want to acknowledge? And if there’s any tension I’ve been carrying — toward someone else, or toward myself — I look at that too. Forgiveness. Not because it’s easy. Because it frees me.
Then I visit my four goals. I see each one clearly. Not as a list on paper, but as a living picture. I look at them. Feel the pleasant feelings they bring. Let myself want them without fear.
And then I ask one question.
What is the most important thing for me today?
Just one thing. That single answer becomes my intention — the quiet compass that guides everything else I do from that point forward.
The last thing I do before coming out is a mental rehearsal of my day.
I see myself moving through it — driving out, smooth roads, beautiful sky. I see the conversations, the moments, the destinations. I experience the day before it happens. And in that rehearsal, everything goes well.
It might sound simple. But there’s something about going through your day first in your mind — calmly, positively, with intention — that makes the actual day feel different. More grounded. Less reactive. More like you.
When I’m ready, I come back up. Five to one, Silva style. Eyes open. Day begun.
The reason I’m sharing this with you is because I think a lot of us start the day by immediately reacting.
The phone. The news. Someone else’s urgency. And before we’ve even fully arrived in the day, we’re already behind — already shaped by things outside us rather than by what we want to bring into it.
You don’t need to follow my exact routine. The Silva Method, the counting, the relaxation place — those are mine, and they work for me. What matters is the principle underneath them.
Have something that’s yours. A habit. A ritual. Even five minutes where you choose what enters your mind before the world does.
You might be surprised how much calmer and more confident you feel stepping into whatever is coming ahead.
That’s it. No complicated system. No expensive app. Just a chair, your breath, and the willingness to start your day right — from the inside out.
Step by step. Morning by morning. Better and better.
I hope this resonates.
Quote I’m pondering
“Instead of wondering when your next vacation is, maybe you should set up a life you don’t need to escape from.”
Affirmation I used
I approach everything I do today with curiosity and joy, and that energy makes me better at all of it.
